Origin of the Earth Act:

For four years I struggled with a thought: my son had challenged me to show him a single thing in my house that had not hurt our world.

      I couldn’t. Not even a potted plant.

Though I had co-authored Thinking, I could not think my way out of the vast weight of our civilization upon our planet. I was trapped in the global warming dream of a house, car, and stuff. Whether I turned on the stove, hopped into the car, or even put on a pair of shoes, I hurt our planet. Caged like an animal in our culture, I paced and thought. As a long-odds solution, I wrote America: the Takeback for college students, and took it to their campuses hopefully sowing the seeds of a healthier America.

Was there any other way powerful enough and practical enough to maintain most of our dream while stopping most of our negative impact on earth?

There was: The Earth Act. A deep appeal that is also broad enough to draw in most Americans, followed by a series of practical earth acts. The Earth Act is a unifying statement that cuts across political, geographical, religious and ethical boundaries. I vetted it with red necks and green guys, scientists and humanists, accountants and artists, teachers and students, republicans and democrats, techs and farmers, doctors and nurses, and the clerks at the quickstops.

These diverse people agreed to sign the Earth Act; more importantly, they represented a huge numbers of voters who will also sign and outweigh lobbyists. When that number reaches a persuasive point, we will approach Congress to sponsor, The Earth House Act which states simply: “In five years all new houses must be built to use 100% renewable, non-polluting energy.” Since these houses are already being built, and since the buyers recoup their purchase price in energy savings and a higher resale value, the resistance to such an Act could be overcome.

With the success of this act, membership would continue to grow and successive acts would be easier to pass such as The Earth Auto Act and The Earth Materials Acts. The American dream of a home, a car, and “stuff,” could continue with minimal impact on earth. In fact, High Clean Tech could generate jobs and leadership in the world.

So, please spread this site widely to all those Americans who can agree with The Earth Act —it is not in competition with other organizations, for it is not engaged in fund raising.

Start now. Share this statement. Send an email:

Contact your friends personally, ask them to read and to pass it forward to their friends, and then let it loose just short of spam to any associations, groups, co-workers Churches, bloggers, myspacers, you-tubers, green groups or even your old fashioned Christmas list. Hang in there for the long haul, helping us to grow.

This is for all who want a clean green earth, and a true blue sky!

PASS IT FORWARD! Growing numbers of Americans, joined in this over-arching goal, will succeed.
